Even if FIFA got it wrong, the Globe Soccer Awards eventually gave Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick his due.

Flick was awarded Coach of the Year for his incredible 2020 campaign where he led Bayern Munich to titles in the Bundesliga. DFB-Pokal, Champions League, DFL-Supercup, and UEFA Super Cup.

In a decision that left many observers confused, FIFA awarded Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp with its Coach of the Year honor. Klopp, who led Liverpool to its first Premier League crown in 30 years certainly was worthy of consideration, but Flick’s run of success — especially after taking over a very volatile situation from Niko Kovac — was unprecedented:

Flick admitted to being a little disappointed after losing out on the FIFA awards, so hopefully this consolation prize will take away a bit of the sting he felt after that snub.

In addition, Robert Lewandowski was honored as Player of the Year:

Other awards given out included:

  • Club of the Year: Bayern Munich
  • Club of the Century: Real Madrid
  • Player of the Century (2000-2020): Cristiano Ronaldo
  • Coach of the Century (2000-2020): Pep Guardiola
  • Player Career Award: Iker Casillas
  • Player Career Award: Gerard Piqué
  • Top Title Winners of the Middle East: Al Ahly Sporting Club
