Alaba still has a “tendency” to leave Bayern (@Plettigoal)

The transfer saga of Bayern Munich’s David Alaba is obviously still ongoing and Sport1’s Florian Plettenberg thinks that the Austrian has a “tendency” to leave the club in the summer.

Plettenberg lists Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea as the most obvious destinations, but we have also seen Juventus, Manchester City, and Manchester United attached to Alaba at different points:

Of course, Sport Bild threw even more cold water any hopes Alaba might return to Bayern Munich, which we covered here.

Marca, meanwhile, says that Real Madrid is ecstatic that it could get Alaba on a free transfer. The publication even stated that a transfer is “in the oven” — and had a picture of Alaba baking.

In addition, Marca indicated that once Alaba realized that a deal with Bayern Munich was not going to happen, he began to focus on a move to La Liga — specifically Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, with Los Blancos as the favorite.

Haaland should move on per Lothar (AS)

Lothar Matthäus thinks Erling Haaland is ready for a new challenge.

“Dortmund should be grateful to have him because he is a striker who fits perfectly into the team. The positivity that he radiates is reflected in the team and for that reason, I think that the moment has almost arrived; Haaland will play no more for Borussia Dortmund and will take the next step,” Matthäus said. “He’s ready for it and we are proud to have him in the Bundesliga.”

AS has reported that Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola has already paved the way for Haaland to leave Dortmund after the 2021/2022 season:

Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola and Borussia Dortmund have a verbal agreement in which the German club agreed to facilitate the player’s departure in 2022, as AS reported recently.

Whatever the case, Matthäus knows greatness when he sees it.

“He’s 20 years old, and he’s a goal machine — for a striker, he just flies,” Matthäus said. “He brings positivity to the team as well as scoring goals. He’s irreplaceable. Erling Haaland is considered at Dortmund in the same way as Robert Lewandowski is at Bayern Munich: a forward who is not just responsible for scoring goals, but for pulling the team forward with him. He’s already a leader at 20 years of age.”

“All of that says it all about him,” Matthäus continued. “He knows what he needs to do. He drops back to help out in defense too — that is something which I really enjoy watching Lewandowski do too. He is not just a regular, run-of-the-mill striker. The way he thinks, for a young lad of 20 years...He doesn’t just think about himself, he thinks about the whole team.”

I’m already one step of you Lothar!

Madrid wants “Haaland and Mbappe” per one journo (Sky Sports)

According to Spanish reporter Alvaro Montero, Real Madrid has no interest in Liverpool’s Mo Salah, but would prefer to go all-in on getting Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland:

Spanish football journalist Alvaro Montero believes Real Madrid will pursue deals for Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe next summer instead of a move for Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

Akanji getting interest from the Prem (Transfer Market Web)

Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji is allegedly drawing interest from both Leicester City and Liverpool:

Playing for Borussia Dortmund since 2017/18 mid-season, Swiss international centre-back Manuel Akanji (25), according to sky.de, has been targeted by both Leicester City and Liverpool. Former FC Basel player is currently on a deal with German giants until June 2022, and is roughly worth around 24 million euros, at the time.

David Alaba was recognized as Austria’s best footballer for an astonishing seventh time:

The 28-year-old Bayern defender has been crowned Footballer of the Year in his home country of Austria. Alaba beat RB Leipzig’s Marcel Sabitzer and RB Salzburg’s Dominik Szoboszlai in the vote, which is conducted by the Austrian Press Agency (APA) among coaches and sporting directors of the Austrian Bundesliga clubs. It’s the seventh time that the Austria international has received the award, having won it six years in a row between 2011 and 2016, making him the record winner. “It’s a tremendous honour. I’m very grateful for this award,” said Alaba.

Alaba’s efforts in 2020 were appreciated by both CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and manager Hansi Flick:

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, FC Bayern CEO: “I want to congratulate David Alaba on being voted Austrian Footballer of the Year. FC Bayern is proud of this player and what he’s done for our club in this extraordinary year. David made a significant contribution to the five titles we won. He’s a superb footballer, a leader in our team and also a fine man. All of us at FC Bayern are pleased for him about this award.”

Hansi Flick, FC Bayern head coach: “David more than deserves this award for his performances this year. He raised his incredible level again and has become one of the best players in the world at centre-back, a position that was initially unfamiliar to him. He’s been an important cornerstone in our team and contributed a huge amount to us winning five titles. On behalf of the whole team and my coaching staff, I would like to congratulate him on this vote.”

Spurs ready to chase Sabitzer (Sport Bild)

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly a big fan of RB Leipzig star midfielder Marcel Sabitzer and could be ready to try and convince the Austria international to move to England:

For months, José Mourinho (57) has been keeping an eye on the RB star, according to BILD information. Especially because Sabitzer impressed the Tottenham coach in the duels in the Champions League round of 16 in February. Back then, Sabitzer played a major role in helping the bulls advance with two goals.

Now things are moving! Since Sabitzer’s contract expires in 2022, Leipzig could make real money with the Austrian for the last time in the summer. Mourinho knows that too! According to the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”, the Portuguese wants to guide the Leipzig playmaker to the island for almost 50 million euros.
