Bayern Munich reserve striker Joshua Zirkzee is in limbo.
The 19-year-old has only appeared in three games and has not recorded any goals or assists — and his standing behind both Robert Lewandowski and Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting seems to be causing the youngster some major consternation.
With Zirkzee in dire need of field time — and not a whole lot of it currently available with Bayern Munich — the Dutchman is reportedly looking at another Bundesliga club for a loan.
“Our info is that there is still contact between Joshua Zirkzee, his advisors, and FC Köln,” Sky transfer expert Max Bielefeld said. “And he really wants to leave. He needs playing time.”
On the surface, a loan would seem to be beneficial for all involved:
- FC Köln would get a striker that it badly needs.
- Zirkzee would be an in an environment where he should get valuable game time for a first division team.
- Bayern Munich would get an opportunity to really see if Zirkzee has the chops to cut it in the Bundesliga.
Will it happen? We should soon find out.
