Javi Martinez likely to leave on a free transfer, while Corentin Tolisso’s Bayern Munich future hangs in the air

The midfield duo’s position at the club hasn’t been very clear for past couple of seasons and status quo is to remain until atleast the end of the season.

Per a report by Sport Bild (print edition), old warhorse Javi Martinez and World Cup winner Corentin Tolisso are doubtful to stay at Bayern Munich beyond the summer transfer window.

Rumors were high about veteran Javi Martinez’s departure this past transfer window to his old club Athletic Bilbao. But that move ultimately failed to materialize due to transfer fee and wage demands. However, with his contract expiring in 2021 and Bayern showing no signs of an intent to extend him, Javi is expected to leave the Allianz Arena at the end of his contract in June next year.

Corentin Tolisso’s case however is still unclear. Injuries have hampered his Bayern career so far, never letting him have an extended period of play to establish himself in the team. In the games that Coco’s featured, his performances have been somewhat of a mixed bag — having some good performances especially in the Champions League but also have some poor games.

Javi is having a resurgent season as the overall pace of the team increased, it has led to his best qualities really shine when given the opportunity to play. Despite this, most signs point to his departure at the end of his contract. With Coco on the other hand, the Bayern bosses are to decide from the remaining season whether the Frenchman will go on sale or not come the summer transfer window.

It will be interesting to see how Bayern will replace the midfield duo who have played important depth roles in this game packed season.
