Schalke 04 has four draws and eight losses through 12 games in the Bundesliga with a -27 goal differential.
Those numbers were enough for the front office to sack manager Manuel Baum per a release on the club website. Baum was let go and Huub Stevens will assume the caretaker role for the hapless and struggling club:
Head coach Manuel Baum will be released with immediate effect. For the last Bundesliga game of the year against Arminia Bielefeld (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.) and the second round game in the DFB Cup against SSV Ulm 1846 (Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.), Huub Stevens will sit on the bench as head coach on an interim basis. Mike Büskens will be at his side as assistant coach.
There are many reasons that Schalke 04 has devolved into a dumpster fire, but massive debt, poor personnel decisions, and a lack of a strategic vision as an organization are probably at the top of the list.
Schalke will take on Arminia Bielefeld tomorrow in the team’s last game before the winter break.
