Bayern Munich KO Ajax, move onto Round of 16 in UWCL

Bayern Munich marched to a 3-0 victory over Ajax in the second leg of their Round of 32 UEFA Women’s Champions League tie. The Bavarians advance in the match-up with a 6-1 aggregate scoreline. The Round of 16 awaits.

Lineth Beerensteyn opened the scoring in the first minute, smashing home a long pass from Sydney Lohmann to put Bayern up 4-1 on aggregate. Bayern wasted no time to start the second half, scoring in the 47th minute to make it 2-0 (5-1 on aggregate). Lea Schüller smashed home her own rebound to effectively end the match with almost an entire half to play.

In the 69th minute, Lohmann converted a penalty after Stefanie van der Gragt fouled Linda Dallmann in the penalty area.

“The goal was of course to get through, we made it. We scored six goals in two legs and only conceded one,” Lohmann said, “so I think we can be satisfied with that. Now we’re looking forward to the next round.”

The draw for the Round of 16 will be held on February 16, 2021. The first legs will be played on March 3 and 4, and the second legs will be played on March 10 and 11.

On Sunday, Bayern will travel to SC Sand on Sunday, December 20th in the final Frauen Bundesliga game before the winter break. The Bavarians have a five point advantage over Wolfsburg heading into the final match and keeping that lead will be extremely important heading into 2021.
