The draw for the Champions League Round of 16 takes place at the UEFA Headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland on Monday, December 14. Bayern Munich are on a mission to retain their European title, having won the top prize unbeaten last season.
Hansi Flick and his boys face the prospect of a daunting challenge in doing so, given the effect of fixture congestion on the team’s fortunes on the pitch. There’s no month-long winter break at the halfway mark this time — Bayern are playing almost non-stop until the end of the season. This is hardly ideal, as the players have barely been rested since the UCL mini tournament in August. There are injuries to deal with, and the team’s defense also leaves a lot to be desired, which is worrying given that the games are only a couple of months away.
