Lucien Favre has been sacked as coach of Borussia Dortmund after yesterday’s humiliating 5-1 home defeat to VfB Stuttgart.
According to Bild, Dortmund has parted ways with the Swiss coach less than 24 hours after the defeat and the team should be informed about what happens next during Borussia’s training session this afternoon.
Favre leaves Dortmund after only winning the DFL-Supercup in 2019 while failing to end Bayern Munich’s dominance in the league. A poor start to the 2020/21 season, with four losses in the first 11 games, Dortmund is currently in 5th place in the league, only winning one out of their last five games.
Rumors about his departure intensified after yesterday’s defeat. The question now is who can take over after Favre? While the squad is an extremely talented one, available coaches remain limited. Red Bull Salzburg’s Jesse Marsch has been mentioned as a potential candidate as has Mauricio Pochettino, Marsch being the most likely option out of the two.
