Report: Bayern Munich’s David Alaba open to Premier League move

With a move away from Bavaria looking more and more likely, could the Premier League be an intriguing option for Bayern Munich’s David Alaba?

Bayern Munich defender David Alaba is now reportedly open to a move to England. This comes as a surprise as he previously stated he wasn’t interested in a move to the Premier League. This adds even more complexity to an already long and complicated ordeal.

The 28-year-old Austrian is in the final year of his contract with Bayern, and it is likely that he will not extend his time at the Allianz based on recent talks. However, it is not because of a lack of talent. Alaba has high demands but fortunately there are high demands for him in the English top flight.

Giants like Liverpool FC and Manchester City might have the kind of money that Alaba is asking for. Both these teams had their eyes on the Austrian this summer, but Alaba was not interested in a move to England at the time. Other top suitors for the versatile defender included Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

Bayern fans can get some relief knowing that Alaba is focusing his attention on his play, rather than negotiations. “At the moment I don’t think too much about it but I can imagine playing somewhere else. I am very focused on Bayern Munich. We really want to reach our goals and I really want to help the team,” he recently told The Times.

It has been reported that both Liverpool and Man City are eager to place Alaba in their teams, but have concerns whether Alaba is truly committed to leaving Bayern. Sky Sports recently stated that Alaba is in no rush to leave and intends on rejecting any transfer opportunities over the next transfer window:

“He is a player any club in the world would love, and Liverpool and City have made it known that if he wants to come to England they will be interested, but they have made it clear they don’t want to be involved if he does not want to come to play in the Premier League,” a source told 90min.

Despite some new suitors in the race, Real Madrid are still regarded as the favorites to land the Austrian. This is no certainty as there will be interest from several top clubs and Bayern might still have hope as both Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Hansi Flick are leaving the door open for Alaba to potentially stay at Bayern.
