In what has to be a dream come true for Alabama-native Chris Richards, the Bayern Munich defender has earned a call-up to the United States Men’s National Team.
Richards will be part of a defensive group that includes John Brooks (Wolfsburg), Reggie Cannon (Boavista), Sergiño Dest (FC Barcelona), Matt Miazga (Anderlecht), Tim Ream (Fulham), and Antonee Robinson (Fulham) for the USMNT. Per the release:
A total of 10 players are seeking their first cap with the senior National Team, including Borussia Dortmund midfielder Gio Reyna, who is looking to join the list of 11 players who have appeared for the USMNT before turning 18-years-old. Chris Richards – a defender for reigning UEFA Champions League and Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich – also earns his first senior team call.
The 20-year-old former FC Dallas prospect has overcome a recent calf injury and has spent time jockeying between Bayern Munich and Bayern Munich II. The versatile defender, who has shown his prowess equally at center-back and right-back is considered of the most dynamic young defenders for his country and has spent the past two years building up a strong reputation on Säbener Straße as well.
For his part, Richards has already tweeted his gratitude for the opportunity to represent his county under coach Gregg Berhalter:
Excited for this opportunity https://t.co/54vqV1PHNI
