The next coronavirus shock has come for Bayern Munich. This time, the player affected is Niklas Süle. TZ München’s Jonas Austermann announced by tweet at noon German time that the Bayern center-back had tested positive for COVID-19:
Nach Infos der @tzmuenchen ist Niklas Süle positiv auf Corona getestet worden. #SALFCB #FCBayern

Simultaneously, the club issued a terse press release confirming the positive test:
Niklas Süle has tested positive for COVID-19. The 25-year-old Bayern Munich defender is self-isolating at home and is doing well.
Per the guidelines of the Robert Koch Institute, Süle will have to remain in isolation for at least the next 10 days even if his subsequent tests are negative, and 14 days if the positive result is confirmed. That would rule Süle out of two important upcoming games: Bayern’s Champions League group stage fixture against RB Salzburg tomorrow (Nov. 2), and the first installment of the Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund on Nov. 7.
Fortunately for Bayern — paradoxically — the international break then ensues. Süle will potentially miss Germany’s friendly against the Czech Republic on Nov. 11 and the National League match against Ukraine on Nov. 14. He theoretically could return against Spain on Nov. 17.
