If you are looking for the hottest team in Germany, you can look on the campus of Säbener Straße — at the FC Bayern Munich Frauen. Jens Scheuer’s squad picked up their ninth consecutive victory as they trounced perennial power Wolfsburg 4-1.

“Of course, I’m very proud of my team,” said manager Jens Scheuer told the club website. “We didn’t play the best game in terms of football, but we played by far the best game of the season in terms of our attitude, mentality, and exploitation of opportunities. Then the result at this level is not undeserved, even if it may be a goal too high. Five points are definitely a little cushion, but we only had the 9th matchday and there are a total of 22nd matchdays and the lead can still melt away.”

Viviane Asseyi gave Bayern a lead in the 26th minute, before Marina Hegering (43rd minute) added another just before halftime. Lineth Beerensteyn (46th minute) gave the FC Bayern Munich a 3-0 lead before Wolfsburg’s Lena Goeßling scored on a penalty kick in the 64th minute.

“It’s super nice, we are all overjoyed that we were able to keep the three points with us in Munich,” said goalkeeper Laura Benkarth. “The season is still very long, so we can’t rest on the win. The result should give us confidence as we now have a five-point buffer. But we still want to tackle every game with one hundred percent commitment and continue to score points and, above all, wins. Of course, the first goal we conceded annoys us, but we’re glad we got those three points. That was the most important thing.”

Goeßling’s goal was the first allowed by the FC Bayern Munich Frauen all season.

“We are very, very satisfied with the result,” said team captain Lina Magull. “It was an absolute act of will. In terms of football, it may not always have been at the highest level and we can also go a step further. But I don’t want to complain too much after a game like that and I’m very proud that we scored four goals against Wolfsburg and only conceded one. It was by no means a preliminary decision towards the championship. We still have a lot of games ahead of us and we have to give one hundred percent week-after-week. We have been doing very well so far and must continue to build on it.”

The scoring was finalized with an own goal from Wolfsburg’s Dominique Janssen in the 77th minute.

“It was a great game and I think it was an absolutely deserved win,” said club president Herbert Hainer. “The girls were world class. We wanted to attack Germany before the season. Now we’ve won nine games in a row and are the leader of the table with a five-point lead, you really can’t complain. The fact that they only conceded their first goal on Matchday 9 today shows how good they are. If you beat the reigning champions 4-1 and lead the table with five points, that gives you a feeling of security. The team is incredibly stable this season. Not only does it win, but it also wins convincingly.”

In an absolutely astounding statistic, the Bayern Frauen have scored 30 goals, while allowing just one. Anyway, the FC Bayern Frauen will play another home game next weekend against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday afternoon at 2:00PM local time (8:00AM EST).
