Report: Bayern Munich decides against extending Boateng, leaving his future uncertain

After ten years at the club, Boateng will leave Bayern Munich this summer, possibly for the Premier League or MLS.

Per Bild, Bayern Munich has already made the hard decision not to offer Jerome Boateng a new contract. The decorated center-back will leave the club at the conclusion of the current season this summer.

Boateng had recently indicated that he would be happy to extend his contract at Bayern. After nearly leaving because of friction with Niko Kovac, Boateng has revived his career under Hansi Flick. He was a critical part of the team that won the Treble last season, just as in 2013.

But the decision was not his to make. Bild states that Boateng is disappointed, but the situation is not entirely clear. Sport1’s Florian Plettenberg says that Boateng’s management has not even heard of Bayern’s decision.

According to Bild, FC Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and FC Chelsea are monitoring Boateng’s situation, since he would come onto the market after a very strong season as a free agent. Boateng is also weighing a future at a big-city club in the MLS. Bild mentions the LA Galaxy, Inter Miami, Chicago Fire, and the New York clubs.
