Kai Havertz was one of the most sought after targets over the past transfer window. The German midfielder recently revealed why he joined the Blues.

Kai Havertz joined Chelsea FC this summer where he is now linking up with fellow German international, Timo Werner. Both of these names will be very familiar to any fan of Die Roten. Most Bayern Munich fans would likely have thought that they would land at least one of the two names at some point. So how did Chelsea attract both?

Havertz recently revealed why he favored a move to join Chelsea this offseason. He admits he was swayed by the club’s vision. This, of course, is to win a Premier League title with an exciting and offensive side. Havertz told Sport Bild: “We want to build something up here and attack. That motivates me a lot. And then it is a title with Chelsea is worth a lot more”.

Havertz also attributes his liking to Chelsea as a result of Frank Lampard. The prospect of learning from a legend was one of the main factors in his decision to join the Blues. The former Bayer Leverkusen star was always impressed with Lampard’s scoring threat.

“I found that outstanding for a midfielder,” Havertz said. “That’s what I want to measure myself against.”

Havertz has taken Lampard as an idol and now wants to replicate the same impact Lampard made for Chelsea himself.

You can’t blame the kid. Chelsea is looking great at the moment and it looks like the squad’s defensive issues have been solved by newcomer Edouard Mendy, who has recently joined Stade Rennais F.C. Havertz is certainly more likely to earn far more silverware with Chelsea, than he might have ever with Leverkusen.
