Bayern Munich picked up another clean sheet to remain at the top of the Frauen Bundesliga on Sunday. The 3-0 win over SV Meppen moves Bayern two points clear of their closest challenger and ten points ahead of the final Champions League place awarded to the league.

Marina Hegering got things started for Bayern with an amazing solo run through the box before poking the ball over the goal line for the 1-0 lead. Klara Bühl doubled Bayern’s lead at the half hour mark finishing a brilliant run from Hanna Glas.

In the 40th minute, Lineth Beerensteyn made it 3-0 and put the match out of reach. Sarah Zadrazil slid a pass into the box to Beerensteyn who dropped her defender to the ground and finished off the farm.

Bayern pushed for more goals in the second half, but they were unable to snag any more. Still, eight shutouts to start the campaign is an incredible feat, and the Bayern defenders should be proud.

Bayern XI: Benkarth - Simon, Hegering, Wenninger, Glas (81. Ilestedt) - Zadrazil (60. Boye), Magull - Asseyi (60 Schüller), Dallmann (81. Laudehr), Beerensteyn (67. Corley) - Bühl

After eight matches, Bayern are sitting perfect with 24 points at the top of the table. The Bavarians have scored 26 goals and conceded 0 so far. It’s a remarkable start to the campaign.

Bayern’s next match is the biggest of the season. The Bavarians will host perennial champions Wolfsburg at the Bayern Campus. With a two point lead at the top of the table, Bayern has a chance to put some real distance between themselves and Wolfsburg.

In other Bayern news, Sydney Lohmann has signed a contract extension to keep her in Munich through the summer of 2024.

“I am very happy about my contract extension, that the club approached me so early and that they have placed their trust in me,” Lohmann said. “I feel absolutely at home at FC Bayern, we have the best conditions here and I really enjoy training and working with the team every day.”

Lohmann joined Bayern in 2016 and playing with the youth teams. She moved into the first team in the spring of 2017 and has solidified herself as a top Bayern player.
