Joshua Zirkzee’s call-up to the U-21 squad for the Netherlands meant he would have to eventually discuss that rumored deal to Feyenoord with the local media. The 19-year-old striker did not avoid the question and gave some frank responses to Dutch news outlet AD.

When asked specifically about a loan move to Feyenoord, Zirkzee indicated those discussions did not get as far as him talking to the Dutch club. In fact, he insisted that he did not have any contact with manager Dick Advocaat.

“I have never spoken to Feyenoord myself,” said Zirkzee.

In addressing the transfer window rumors, Zirkzee did not rule out a move in the future given his status behind Robert Lewandowski and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in the first-team pecking order at striker for Bayern Munich.

“It was a difficult story. I will stay with Bayern now, but maybe something will happen in the future. I don’t know exactly yet,” Zirkzee said of his transfer deadline drama.

Zirkzee made his U-21 debut for the Netherlands’ 5-0 victory over Gibraltar by entering the game in the second half.
