In his brief time with Bayern Munich’s first-team, Jamal Musiala has opened many eyes with his tantalizing potential. That curiosity around the player is not limited to the club scene, however.
Musiala is a dual-national with eligibility to play for both Germany and England, but the DFB would like to see the youngster commit to a future with Die Mannschaft. Musiala, who was born in Stuttgart, currently plays internationally for England’s U-17 team.
“We are delighted that the youngster received his first Bundesliga appearances under Hansi Flick. Jamal Musiala is undeniably a great talent,” Meikel Schönweitz told Bild. “We have been working with him for a long time. That’s why we traveled to London in 2018, when he was still playing for Chelsea FC, to talk to him and his family about his prospects in the German national teams.”
Musiala, who played two games for Germany’s U-16 before transitioning back to England, will clearly have a difficult time making the call on which direction he wants to go.
“(Musiala) also has a very strong connection to England, where he spent much of his youth and has played for all the national teams since U-15. Last year, he told us that he wanted to qualify for the U-17 European Championship with England,” said Schönweitz. “It is important for us to have players who identify with Germany and play for our teams with conviction. Jamal was born in Germany, spent his childhood in Germany and made his first first league appearances in this country. He still has a perspective with us, but at the same time it is important to respect other decisions fairly.”
Whatever happens, Musiala will surely make himself even more coveted if he continues to flash his vast potential on the pitch for Bayern Munich.
