After a solid showing against Borussia Dortmund in the DFL-Supercup, United States Men’s National Team hopeful Chris Richards will start on the back-line for Bayern Munich today against Hertha Berlin.
With the lineup looking like Alphonso Davies shift up the field to a wing position today, it appears that Richards will start with Jerome Boateng, Lucas Hernandez, and David Alaba along the Bavarian back-line. In this set-up, it looks like Richards will play right-back:

This is a huge step for the 20-year-old Alabama native, who had quite a journey in progressing through the youth soccer ranks in the United States. Recently dubbed “Air” for his prowess in winning aerial duels, Richards is finally getting the chance to show off his skills on the big stage.
With a good showing, Richards could help ease the concern and clamoring that many Bayern Munich fans have with regard to the back-up right-back position. A natural center-back, Richards is yet another Bayern Munich player with the versatility to seamlessly slide between positions.
