With Bayern Munich’s 2-1 victory over FC Köln, Thomas Müller equaled Oliver Kahn, for the Bayern club record for most Bundesliga games won. Müller grabbed the first goal of the match with a well taken penalty — taking over spot kick duties after Robert Lewandowski was rested for the match.
Müller has been at the top of his game and a key figure in Bayern’s squad, for now, an incredible 10+ years. Rarely has a player with such consistency been seen at a level as high as this, for this long. Still one of the best player’s on the planet, the German continues to be a key player in this Bayern side and will likely pick up many, many more wins over the next few years. Müller has also missed a preposterously low number of games in his career through injury — no doubt contributing to the large amounts of Bundesliga games he’s won (260!).
The current league record for games won is Malfred Kaltz’ 290 wins for Hamburg. Being second now in the rankings, and only 30 games away from the honor, it would be foolish to assume the Raumdeuter won’t surpass Kaltz — potentially by next season.
Müller is still at the pinnacle of his game, the defining player of Flicki Flaka football, and he’s here to stay; ideally for a very long time. Hopefully the Bayern man will clinch the Bayern record against Borussia Dortmund next week!
