Bayern Munich defender David Alaba’s contract will expire next summer and with the latest round of negotiations reportedly falling through, his future is still uncertain in Bavaria. With January fast approaching, it is getting more and more difficult for Bayern to negotiate a deal with Alaba and his representatives.
The primary hold-up, of course, seems to be money.
While Bayern is famous for its strict financial rules and financial hierarchy, some other top clubs would not mind paying Alaba the amount that he wishes. Alaba was previously linked with Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester City, but new rumors indicate that Liverpool is also keen on bringing Alaba. As Football Insider reports, Liverpool could try to bring him in the January transfer window or have a pre-contract ready for Alaba:
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Alaba is on the target list of Liverpool, just as his former teammate Thiago Alcantara was before sealing a blockbuster move from Bayern to Anfield in the recent window.
Virgil van Dijk’s injury left Liverpool’s defensive corps thin and the Reds are on the lookout for a new signing. As Alaba’s contract extension is getting more complicated, Liverpool is once again looking to snatch a Bayern player.
