Per an official release from the club, Bayern Munich and Germany international striker Serge Gnabry has tested positive for coronavirus.
The club’s official Twitter account released a statement saying he is doing well and is in quarantine. Before training yesterday, the club administered tests to each of the players. Gnabry found out about the positive result of his test after training, which may have involved contact with coaches and other staff. It was not said whether any subsequent tests were given to other members of the coaching staff or players in light of Gnabry’s positive result.
Per Bild, the club will release another statement later this evening (Central European Time).
This comes just 24 hours before Bayern Munich is set to play their first game of the UEFA Champions League group stage against Atletico Madrid. With Gnabry now out in addition to winger Leroy Sane (knee), Bayern manager Hansi Flick will be forced to experiment on the wings with only Kingsley Coman healthy and available for tomorrow’s match.
We will provide any further updates as they come to light.
