Bayern Munich’s Corentin Tolisso given two match Bundesliga ban for red card

There will be no appeal for this verdict as Bayern Munich’s Corentin Tolisso has been suspended for two games.

When Bayern Munich were 4-1 up on Saturday, during their win over Arminia Bielefeld, Corentin Tolisso made a reckless slide challenge following a loose Javi Martinez pass. Not getting any ball, there was only one place Tolisso was going...back to the locker room for an early shower. Now, per kicker, the Frenchman has been awarded a two-match Bundesliga ban for his actions. This ban will not be contested by Bayern and therefore is final.

As written in the Daily Schmankerl, coach Hansi Flick was unhappy about the red card. Labelling it “a stupid red card” and bemoaning Tolisso for not putting “his body in there and then play(ing) the ball back to Neuer.”

Tolisso was definitely ill-advised to make the challenge, especially given that Bayern were up by three goals at the time. However, Martinez should also take considerable blame for his poor pass putting his teammate in an awkward position. As said by Phillip Quinn in regards to Tolisso’s ban, “He and Javi should split it.”

This two-game suspension is unfortunate and hopefully Tolisso comes back stronger.
