Atletico Madrid’s veteran center forward Diego Costa will not be with the team when they play Bayern Munich on Wednesday this week in the Champions League group stage. The 32-year-old injured himself early in the second half of Atletico’s weekend fixture against Celta Vigo, which they won 2-0 thanks
Atletico finally posted a brief press release confirming that Costa had suffered an injury. The club laconically stated, “Diego Costa underwent tests at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra that confirmed he has suffered a muscle injury in the left thigh. The striker is pending response to treatment.”
The club gave no indication of the extent of Costa’s injury or his anticipated recovery time. Costa himself seemed distraught when the injury occurred.
In Costa’s absence, Atletico’s front line will probably be led by former Barcelona striker Luis Suarez, who scored in the 6th minute of their game against Celta, his third goal so far this season.
