Bayern Munich beat Hoffenheim 4-0 on Sunday to move to sole possession of first place in the Frauen Bundesliga. The Bavarians have had quite the start to the season with six wins out of six, including an impressive 20 goals scored with 0 conceded.

Jens Scheuer made four changes to the lineup that won midweek against MSV Duisburg, but the Bavarians weren’t phased and came out swinging against Hoffenheim. After a few minutes, a goal came, and Bayern were off and running.

Klara Bühl took a free kick from out wide right in the 3rd minute, and Amanda Ilestedt beat everyone to the ball and poked it home for the 1-0 lead. Another newcomer assisted on Sydney Lohmann’s goal in the 31st minute with Sara Zadrazil putting a long cross on her head for the score.

It took a while for Bayern to find the third goal of the match, but Carina Wenninger turned in a corner kick from Bühl in the 79th minute. Viviane Asseyi made it 4-0 in the 86th minute when she tucked the ball inside the far post following a big crossfield switch from Hanna Glas.

“Three points, four goals - I am very, very satisfied with our performance today!” captain Lina Magull said. “We dominated the game from the start and were very handy from the first minute.”

Bayern XI: Benkarth - Glas, Wenninger, Hegering, Ilestedt - Magull (81. Dallmann), Zadrazil - Asseyi, Lohmann (90. Laudehr), Beerensteyn (87. Corley) - Bühl (81. Boye)

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Wolfsburg dropped points against a Frauen Bundesliga team not named Bayern for the first time since December 2018! Freiburg managed a 1-1 draw against Wolfsburg, meaning that Bayern go two points clear at the top of the table.

The next few matches will ratchet up the pressure on Bayern starting next Sunday against Turbine Potsdam.
