The more things change, the more they stay the same. In this case, we’re talking about Bayern Munich pursuing Callum Hudson-Odoi. The Bavarians made a number of bids for the Chelsea youngster last year, but were ultimately unsuccessful as the 20-year-old signed a contract extension with the Blues. Now, fast-forward twelve months, and Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic is back at it, if Bild is to be believed.

According to the report, the Bavarians longtime need for a fourth winger has spurred this latest move for the Englishman. Hudson-Odoi was already struggling for game time at Chelsea, and with the arrivals of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziryech, and Christian Pulisic, his chance of making a breakthrough in the lineup seem slim. In addition the youngster isn’t particularly favored by Frank Lampard, who often uses Mason Mount ahead of him in the lineup.

Bayern, meanwhile, desperately need a fourth winger to replace the departed Ivan Perisic. Given the injury history of Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane, and Kingsley Coman, a fourth winger will be crucial to the team’s success in the upcoming season. Currently, Hansi Flick is making do with Jamal Musiala, a former Chelsea youth who is represented by the same agent that also represents Hudson-Odoi. However, the club bosses want to make one last-ditch effort to sign youngster before the window closes.

Will Bayern succeed? The notion seems unlikely. After all, Chelsea have no incentive to sell, after CHO signed a new contract just last year. The player’s salary demands could also be a hurdle. But Bayern need a new winger, and time is running out. What will the bosses do?
