In an interview with TZ, Bayern Munich’s CEO, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, spoke about the role that Kahn is already playing in the club. As Rummenigge prepares to step down in 2021, he is helping Kahn learn the ropes. In describing Kahn’s progress, he confirmed that the Titan had been involved in the transfer that brought Alvaro Odriozola from Real Madrid to Munich:
We had discussions about the transfer market over the past week. Oliver Kahn took part in them as a new member of the board of directors. In my eyes he is a boon (to the club). At the moment everything is running satisfactorily.
The Bayern legend also had quite a few good things to say about current head coach, Hansi Flick. When asked what he expected from the rest of the season, Rummenigge was very optimistic and credited Flick for creating a winning atmosphere on the team. He said,
We have a good team that has our full trust and we have an excellent spirit in the team. Hansi Flick does that very well. I must openly and honestly say: I am optimistic for the Rückrunde.
He went on to further praise Flick, who has also made an excellent impression on Jupp Heynckes himself:
I find that [Flick] has brought a good game plan and a new speed into practice. Jupp Heynckes called me recently and said of Hansi Flick that, “He is a good representative of FC Bayern.” And that is right! I maintain a very intense exchange with him and we have a good interpersonal relationship.
As for a last wish that Rummenigge has before he steps down, that is very clear: for Bayern to win the Champions League again this season. He believes that this team, with this coach, has the ability to do it.
