Manuel Neuer and his wife have reportedly separated

Manuel Neuer showed some exquisite goalkeeping skills tonight in the Rückrunde opener against Hertha Berlin. Even though the match was played in his wife Nina’s home town, Bayern Munich captain remained unfazed and focused. Why is that important? Because, according to Bild, the Neuers’ marriage is falling apart and they have already been living separately for some time.

Neuer was spotted in Doha training camp without his wedding ring, and Bild adds that he has removed a picture of himself with Nina from his WhatsApp profile.

Although it is only our speculation, Manuel’s dip in form last season might not have been entirely a result of rust from his lengthy recovery from injury. Often when there are family-related issues, players’ performances can also be affected, and perhaps it did in Manuel’s case.
