KIT LEAK: Bayern Munich’s third kit color scheme for 2020/2021

Get ready for a blackout! Bayern’s taking it back to 2012 with these black strips!

We have been treated to a few kit leaks already this season, but we now officially have our first Bavarian Fashion Works kit leak of 2020 thanks once again to Footy Headlines. Until now, we have not even had a glimpse at the potential design for Bayern’s 2020/2021 kits. The basic template for the third kit next season has been leaked, and it bears a striking resemblance to the away kit that Bayern sported in the 2011/2012 season, when we regrettably lost the Bundesliga title to Jürgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund.

For reference, Footy Headlines used Bayern’s third kit from the 2011/2012 season as an example for the color scheme:

Bayern has a decent history of using black kits for their third, or European, kit. Each one sparks memories of historic European nights throughout the years. The new design for next season’s third kit is supposedly a black-based jersey featuring subtle hints of red and white in various spots on the jersey.

Referencing back to the 2011/2012 third kits, there are also subtle hints of red in the middle front of the collar and on the inside bottom of the back of the kit where Mia San Mia is stitched in. Hopefully, Adidas will go with the traditional color scheme for the team badge on the front left breast, in contrast to the monochromatic badges on away and third kits. It has also been suggested that both the shorts and socks in this kit will also be black.

With the proposed color scheme, these kits could look like a near replica of the third kits and training tops that Bayern wore in their 2011/2012 campaign. Of course, as Bayern fans, we all have unhappy memories from that season, losing to Chelsea in the final at the Allianz Arena, but just twelve months later, the historic treble under Jupp Heynckes was completed. It was an era when Bayern had so many great players in the squad like Bastian Schweinsteiger, Philipp Lahm, Mario Mandzukic, Mario Gomez and both Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery in their prime.

Striking resemblance, isn’t it?

We’ll have to wait and see just how much of a “blackout” kit this will be and just how much red and white will be on the kit. In addition, it remains to be seen whether or not we will have a monochromatic badge or traditional badge colors. We can only keep our fingers crossed at this point.

Hopefully you all know the drill by this point, but if not, we also created a poll to see how people feel about the leaked kits.
