Nübel guaranteed games in writing (Sport1)
Sport1 revealed an interesting discovery in their latest write-up of the ongoing Alexander Nübel saga: Bayern Munich not only promised Nübel games, but even guaranteed them in writing. Florian Plettenberg writes,
Sport1 learned of sensitive detail: Nübel is not only promised games in the coming season, but he is even guaranteed them in writing!
A remarkable detail that is unusual in the industry, especially with goal-keepers.
In response to Sport1’s inquiry about whether this written guarantee exists, FC Bayern merely informed them that the club would not give statements about contract details.
One of those unknown details, obviously, is which games Nübel might receive. Even if Nübel played in every one of next season’s 6 possible DFB-Pokal games, that would fall far short of the magic number 15 that Salihamidzic reportedly asked Manuel Neuer to yield.
Some combination then of the Pokal, Champions League (group stage?), and the Bundesliga seems likely. Perhaps Nübel will stand in for Neuer against the minnows... It is hard enough to imagine Neuer willingly a match, let alone an important one.
Sport1 also states that they learned Nübel had turned down very attractive offers because Bayern, in particular Hasan Salihamidzic, had “presented the most convincing and desirable career plan in Nübel’s eyes.”
Bayern apparently made their interest in Nübel known to him as early as 2018, even before Nübel had not yet dethroned Ralf Fährmann as Schalke’s first keeper. “That alone,” Plettenberg adds, “shows how convinced the Rekordmeister is in Nübel’s talent. He is destined to be the Bayern keeper for the next ten or twelve years.”
But for now, he will have to wait behind Neuer, who is expected to extend his contract until 2023.
