Goalkeeper throwdown — Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer vs. FC Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen: All updates + timeline

The raging debate about which goalkeeper should be the starter for Germany has caught the attention of players, coaches, team officials, and fans alike. Everyone has an opinion on which goalkeeper should be in place between the sticks under Joachim Löw.

Should it be team captain and Bayern Munich standout Manuel Neuer or FC Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen? After Ter Stegen took his issues to the media, Neuer responded in kind, and then many others jumped into the fray and started throwing haymakers about who they thought should be Die Mannschaft’s number one option.

Neuer, of course, was a driving force behind Germany’s 2014 World Cup-winning effort, while Ter Stegen helped carry Germany’s B squad to the 2017 Confederations Cup title. After battling persistent injuries for a few years, Neuer looks superb and appears to gave fully re-gained his form, while Ter Stegen has been awesome in his own right.
