Bayern Munich forward Fiete Arp has been conspicuously absent from the game-day roster over the last week. After not appearing on the bench for either the Champions League tilt against Red Star nor on Saturday against FC Köln, there was speculation in the media on exactly what was going on with the 19-year-old.
The question, however, was finally addressed by the club when pressed by tz. Per the German outlet, the former Hamburger SV prospect is still regaining his fitness after being extremely ill about a week-and-a-half ago. The gastrointestinal illness hit Arp hard and the youngster is still working to get back to feeling like himself:
On the weekend he was missing both in the professional squad for the game against the 1. FC Köln, and in the line-up of the amateurs (2:1 against Ingolstadt). But don’t worry! As the club announced yesterday on tz demand, Arp simply still has a little training deficit after his gastrointestinal infection.
While Arp did dress against RB Leipzig on September 14th, it was only because the club was not fully aware of Arp’s condition. Arp, though, is not sulking about the situation. The back-up striker is working hard by participating in extra sessions to build his endurance back up after his sickness:
The summer newcomer yesterday completed an individual unit on Säbener Strasse. The other Bayern pros got off until Tuesday. Arp however pushes special shifts, in order to gain a foothold in the new homeland.
