David Alaba could return for Bayern Munich’s game against Tottenham

The Austrian international may be on track to return to action sooner than expected, as early as Bayern’s next Champions Leauge match against Tottenham Hotspur.

David Alaba’s rehab is going better than planned. Bild is even calling it a Blitz-Comeback. Niko Kovac has hope that Alaba might even be back for Bayern Munich’s Champions League clash with Tottenham Hotspur. Kovac said,

David is making very good progress. We hope that he can already be [available] for Tottenham. Now we must raise the intensity daily before he can start training with the team. Currently he is on a very good path. The game in Paderborn comes just a little bit too early.

The 27-year old Austrian international suffered from a muscle fiber tear in his left thigh while warming up for the game against Leipzig. At the time, there was no definitive time-frame for a return, but the official statement from FC Bayern’s website, stated that he would be out for “a spell.”

In the absence of their long-time starting left-back, Bayern have done fine. Lucas Hernandez played on the left in Saturday’s match against Köln. While he did well on defense, he rarely was able to help out in the attacking third, as Alaba so often does. As long as Alaba is healthy, it will be nice to have Bayern back at full strength, especially in time to play against their toughest opponent in the group on the road.
