Joshua Zirkzee has been a fixture for Bayern II as the amateurs adjust to life in the 3.Liga. At just 18-years-old, and thus technically still eligible for the U19 team coached by Martin Demichelis, Zirkzee has played in every one of Bayern II’s games. Now Bayern Munich has announced that Zirkzee will play his trade for Munich for years to come: Zirkzee has just extended his contract until June 2023 (FCBayern.com).

Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic praised Zirkzee and hopes to see him advance eventually to the first team. He said,

Joshua is a great talent. He is already consistently performing well with the amateurs. We will try to develop him further in the best way possible so that we hopefully see him sometime also on our professional team.

Zirkzee himself was thrilled to extend his commitment to Bayern:

I’m extremely happy to have extended my contract at one of the best clubs in the world. It gives me additional motivation to keep giving my all. I’d like to gain playing experience with the amateurs and continue learning on top of that in training with the pros. My big goal is to play for the first team of FC Bayern someday.

Playing usually as a second striker behind Kwasi “Otschi” Wriedt or occasionally as center-forward himself, Zirkzee has thus far contributed one assist to Bayern II’s campaign. He also plays for the Netherlands’ U19 team.
