Bayern Munich lost 2-1 to Bayern Leverkusen in Sunday’s Frauen Bundesliga match. After grabbing an important midweek win against Goteborg in the Champions League, Bayern’s return to the Grünwalder Stadion against Leverkusen certainly didn’t go as planned.

Bayern started the match strong, but Leverkusen battled their way back into things. Just after the half hour mark, Leverkusen struck through Henrietta Csiszar on a counterattack to take the 1-0 lead.

The pressure began to build on the Leverkusen goal, and Kathrin Hendrich equalized for Bayern in the 41st minute, finishing a corner kick from Lina Magull. However, the level score was short-lived, as Leverkusen took the lead a few minutes later through Milena Nikolic.

Despite generating numerous opportunities in the second half, Bayern were unable to find a second goal, and Leverkusen held on for all three points.

The loss drops Bayern into a six-way tie for second place, three points behind leaders Wolfsburg with nine points.

Bayern XI: Benkarth – Ilestedt, Hendrich, Wenninger, Schweers – Gwinn, Leupolz, Magull, Skorvankova – Beerensteyn, Gielnik
