That’s unfortunate: Bayern Munich draws Wolfsburg in the DFB Frauen Pokal

Nothing like pitting the two best teams in Germany against each other so early in the competition.

In what has to be one of the worst draws for both the teams and the competition overall: the FC Bayern Munich Frauen will square off with Wolfsburg in the round of 16 of the DFB Frauen Pokal. Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg, of course, are the two most talented and highly-regarded teams in Germany. Both squads are currently undefeated in the Frauen-Bundesliga as well.

The Wolves have won the DFB Frauen Pokal an astounding five times in a row, including last year over SC Freiburg. Per FCBayern.com, the recent history of this series in the Pokal has been a bit one-sided, but at a minimum, the Bayern Frauen will get a chance to turn that trend around and also see their former teammate Fridolina Rolfö, who moved to Wolfsburg over the summer. The club writes,

Wolfsburg have won the DFB-Pokal five times in a row. In the 2017-2018 season, the team from the Autostadt beat Bayern in the final at Cologne. In the 2018/2019 season, the Wolves beat the Munich women in the semifinals.

The match will take place on Saturday November 16th in Munich as Bayern will play host in what should be a fantastic match.
