Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness knows coaching talent when he sees it. In an interview with Abendzeitung, however, the 67-year-old indicated that while he likes RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann, he thinks that the young manager needs more time to reach his potential:
He’s a good, young coach. He still has to get older.
Nagelsmann will have an opportunity to showcase his growth as a coach on Saturday, when RB Leipzig host the Bavarians in a battle that should determine which club will reside at the top of the table after the weekend.
Hoeness, though, will be focused on more than merely monitoring the development of a young coach that he admires. The outgoing president is ecstatic for the Bundesliga to be back in action. Specifically, Hoeness is glad that the international break has come and gone:
I’m looking forward to the match and the Bundesliga in general. The Bundesliga has a completely different appeal than these international matches. People really should think about whether they might let the Bundesliga keep playing during this optimal football time. International matches could also take place in January when it’s cold.
As he winds down his tenure with the club, Hoeness will surely be seeking to relish every opportunity to absorb the game day experience while he still can.
