Callum Hudson-Odoi is inching closer to being officially off of Bayern Munich’s radar for the foreseeable future. The 18-year-old winger is scheduled to make his season debut in a contest between Chelsea’s U-23 side as it takes on Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday afternoon per The Sun.
The match will be Hudson-Odoi’s first competitive game action since injuring his Achilles tendon last spring. The injury put a major wrench in Bayern Munich’s pursuit of the young England international, but even the seriousness of the condition did not prevent the Bavarians from making another — unsuccessful — attempt to bring in Hudson-Odoi over the summer.
It has been rumored that when Hudson-Odoi is ready to return to first-team action, Chelsea will formally announce a contract extension with its burgeoning star. Since reports of this scenario first broke in the summer, the transfer noise surrounding Hudson-Odoi has been eerily silent.
Per Goal, everything is falling into place:
There is good news for Chelsea on other fronts, meanwhile, as they expect Callum Hudson-Odoi, who has been sidelined with a serious Achilles injury, to sign a new £180,000-a-week contract in the next week or so. Bayern Munich had long targeted the highly-rated young winger but he is set to sign a new deal with the Premier League club and could feature in the Under-23s game against Brighton on September 13.
Should things go well on Friday, we can expect Chelsea to call Hudson-Odoi to its first-team, which is currently scuffling along in 11th place of the Premier League and announce Hudson-Odoi’s new deal.
