Bayern Munich Frauen joined Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Montpellier this week in the 2019 Women’s French Cup over in Toulouse, France. It was another great week of prep for the upcoming season for Bayern, as Jens Scheuer’s side hopes to compete for a Bundesliga, DFB Pokal, and Champions League triple this season.

In their opening match against PSG, Bayern lost 1-2. Despite going into halftime with the one goal lead thanks to Mandy Islacker, Bayern gave up second half goals to Annahita Zamanian and Jordyn Huitema. Bayern sat captain Melanie Leupolz and regular starter Verena Schweers in this one for precautionary reasons.

In the other opening game, Montpellier pounded Chelsea, 5-2. This set up the third place game between Bayern and Chelsea.

In Thursday’s third place game, Bayern absolutely shellacked Chelsea 5-0. The Bavarians were led by Lineth Beerensteyn who nabbed a hat trick. The other goals were scored by Giulia Gwinn and Jovana Damnjanovic. Bayern are much further along than Chelsea in their preseason, but pounding a team that made last season’s Champions League Semifinals (like Bayern did) is going to be a good feeling.

In the first place game, Montpellier beat PSG on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation.
