When the news broke yesterday that the knee injury sustained by Manchester City’s Leroy Sane might be worse than expected, it was unclear just how severe the damage was. Even now, hours later nothing concrete has leaked from Sane nor Manchester City.
Sport Bild chief reporter Christian Falk, however, is reporting that there is “suspicion” that Sane has torn his ACL.
Other sources are out there like The Telegraph, but its report was more non-committal about the extent of the injury.
Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho has been rumored to be on his way to such destinations as Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and possibly even back to Liverpool. Now however, at least one outlet thinks Coutinho could also be considering Bayern Munich and Juventus:
Philippe Coutinho is still set to leave Barcelona this month, but he won’t be returning to the Premier League. That’s according to Spanish publication Sport, who claim that the former Liverpool man is down to his last two transfer options in the wake of a failure to complete a switch back to England.
Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and, tenuously, Liverpool have all been linked with a move for the Brazilian this summer, but none of them will be completing a switch to bring him back to the English top-flight before the Premier League transfer window closes at 5pm GMT on Thursday. But the window in Europe remains open for a few weeks yet, with clubs in Italy still able to make moves until August 18 and sides in Germany able to sign players up until September
And those two destinations are particularly prevalent for the playmaker, who is said to be down to Bayern Munich and Juventus as his last two choices for making a move this summer. Barca remain determined to sign their former star Neymar this summer, and are prepared to lose Coutinho - who they signed from Liverpool for £142million in January 2018 - in order to make that move happen.
Of course, if Barca is able to unload Coutinho, it would go a long way in its effort to bring back Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain.
Arsenal’s Mesut Özil could be in line to replace Wayne Rooney at D.C. United:
According to a media report, former German football player Mesut Özil is in conversation with a club from the US MLS. According to information from the Washington Post, representatives of the 30-year-old will travel to Washington next week to talk with DC officials about the possibilities of an Özil commitment.
DC United is seeking a successor to captain Wayne Rooney for the next MLS season, starting in January 2020. On Tuesday it was announced that the former England professional leave the US club after the current season and will change as a player-coach to the English second division Derby County.
For FC Arsenal Özil has been controversial because of variable performances. His relationship with coach Unai Emery is considered tense. For this reason, British media have been speculating for some time that Arsenal wants to get rid of its top earner. So far, there should have been no serious prospects for the 2014 World Champion.
It seems like there would be some contractual and timing logistics to work out regarding how D.C. United could afford Özil.
Inter Milan will not relent in its pursuit of FC Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal:
After having been turned down last summer already, Inter Milan are still planning to sign Chilean international midfielder Arturo Vidal (32). Italian club are ready go all-in for it, after having signed both Joao Mario and Borja Valero away. Former Juventus and Bayern Munich star player, who joined Barcelona FC exactly a year ago, is currently on a deal with Blaugrana until June 2021.
Manchester United is reportedly making another last-minute run at Croatia international Mario Mandzukic. With Romelu Lukaku closing in on a deal with Inter Milan, Mandzukic would have a more defined role in England:
Manchester United are back in talks to sign Mario Mandzukic from Juventus as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, according to Sky in Italy. Lukaku, meanwhile, is currently in Milan for a medical after Inter agreed a £73m fee on Wednesday, Sky Sports News understands.
BBC reporter Elko Born is reporting that Ajax is thinking about extending the contract of rumored Bayern Munich target Hakim Ziyech:
According to Dutch media, Ajax want to offer Hakim Ziyech a new contract (again). They want to make him the best paid player in the Netherlands for years to come. Bayern seem to be interested in Ziyech as well. pic.twitter.com/zq3jP4rtew— Elko Born (@Elko_B) August 8, 2019
Ziyech is considered one of the fallback options for Bayern should a deal for Sane fall through — and possibly even if Bayern lands the Manchester City star.
The views at Bayern Munich’s training camp at Tegernsee are pretty terrific (the mountains, not Manuel Neuer stretching!).
