Lucas Hernandez has missed all of Bayern Munich’s preseason competitions due to his recovery from knee surgery, but he was finally able to join the first team in training today. The Bavarians are currently in their training camp at Tegernsee in preparation for squaring off against Energie Cottbus on August 12th in the DFB-Pokal. From there, Bayern Munich will kick off the Bundesliga season against Hertha Berlin on August 16th.
The former Atlético Madrid defender is expected to slide directly into Bayern Munich’s starting line-up at the left center-back position that was vacated by Mats Hummels after he departed for Borussia Dortmund.

Standing at 6 feet, Hernandez is expected to bring pace to the back line and is considered to be a nice complimentary fit next to the towering Niklas Süle. Hernandez, whom Bayern paid an €80 million fee to procure, could also see action at left-back, should Niko Kovac see fit to give David Alaba a rest.
