Last season, both Bayern Munich II and Viktoria Koln won promotion from the Regionalliga into the 3.Liga. Today, Koln looked like the more experienced third division side, putting five goals past Christian Fruchtl on the way to a 5-2 victory.
When you make defensive mistakes in the Regionalliga, you’re not always punished. However, once you hit a league of full professionals like the 3.Liga, you’re mistakes are regularly punished. Bayern are finding that out the hard way right now.
Koln’s Albert Bunjaku scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season in this one, while Bayern’s Kwasi Wriedt grabbed his third and fourth goal.
Sebastian Hoeness really needs to figure out how to solve the defensive woes of FCB II. Sure, the return of Nicolas Feldhahn to the defensive midfield should be a big boost to this team, but perhaps it’s time to try a new centerback pairing now that Chris Richards is healthy and in the squad.
Obviously, winning is not the only/main objective of Bayern II. It is to develop players. However, if you can’t stay in the 3.Liga this season, it’s going to be harder to develop them down in the Regionalliga.

Great news for FCB II! They get next weekend off. With the DFB Pokal First Round kicking off next weekend, leagues will not be in regular action. This is great news. Hopefully, the team uses this time off to work on their issues and prepare for their next match on August 19 against Hallescher.
Bayern XI: Früchtl - Rochelt, Mai, Daniliuc, Stanisic - Welzmüller (77. Shabani), Kern - Dajaku (77. Nollenberger), Zirkzee, Batista Meier (38. Zylla) - Wriedt
Of note: Elsewhere in the 3.Liga, Bayern loanee Franck Evina with KFC Uerdingen scored again today. He now has scored in all four games to start the season.
