It’s official: the groups for the 2019/20 Champions League group stage have been drawn. Bayern Munich will face Tottenham Hotspur, Olympiacos, and Red Star Belgrade in Group B.
It’s a very strong group for the Bavarians, given that Tottenham finished as runners-up in the competition last season, beating both Ajax and Manchester City along the way. Joining them is Greek side Olympiacos, and everyone knows that playing away against Greek teams is never easy. Red Star Belgrade (or Crvena Zvezda, if you wanna call it that) round out the group, and they’re no pushovers either.
This is a very good draw overall. It gives Bayern a chance to test its mettle against one really strong opponent (Spurs), but makes qualification relatively assured due to the presence of Olympiacos and Red Star.
As for the rest of the Bundesliga, they didn’t fare well. Borussia Dortmund got both Barcelona and Inter Milan in their group, creating a much-feared “Group of Death,” while Bayer Leverkusen drew both Juventus and Atletico Madrid. RB Leipzig, in contrast, got a really easy draw. Julian Nagelsmann should make his first Champions League Round of 16 without any trouble.
