Bayern Munich Frauen have announced the signing of Emily Gielnik from the Melbourne Victory in Australia. The length of the contract was not announced. The big forward joins a ever-growing squad as Bayern continue their rebuild with trophies on their mind.
Gielnik is ready to get going.
“I’m excited. It is the dream of every footballer to play for a top club like Bayern Munich. As a striker, I now want to score as many goals as I can for my new club. I want to win the Bundesliga and the Champions League with this great team. These are big goals, I know, but that’s exactly what I’m going to fight for and give everything.”
This isn’t Gielnik’s first European club. Previously in her career, she’s suited up for Liveprool in England and Avaldsnes in Norway. However, as The Women’s Game points out, Gielnik is one of the more high-profile Matildas players to make the move to Europe now. World star Sam Kerr has been rumored for a few months now to be making a high dollar move to England, but that hasn’t materialized yet. However, it does show that Europe is becoming another destination for great players that have long gone to the United States.
She’ll wear the number 15 in Munich.
