Philippe Coutinho was officially announced as a Bayern Munich player on August 19th after the completion of his medical. The club had agreed upon the loan agreement with Barcelona for the Brazilian a few days prior to his medical being completed and the move being 100% finalized, which came just after Bayern’s disappointing 2-2 draw against Hertha Berlin for their Bundesliga opener.

In response, Bayern’s social media group made posts across several platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) announcing Coutinho’s arrival. “#ServusCoutinho” was the official slogan for the announcement of the Brazilian’s appointment with the club and came complete with an official video release on the club’s website that was also posted to Bayern’s smartphone app and social media accounts (via FCBayern.com). With all of the content posted for Coutinho’s unveiling, Bayern yielded record numbers on their social media platforms.

Per the club’s website, more than 100 million fans were reached across the Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram platforms this past Monday (August 19th) with over 300 published pieces of content across all of them. Since Bayern has had official social media accounts, they’ve never seen numbers that large before. Additionally, Bayern’s Instagram post on August 17th that announced the agreement being reached between Barcelona and Bayern for Coutinho received over 1.2 million likes, which was an Instagram-specific record for Bayern’s main account.

In addition to the monumental social media numbers, it is estimated that around 1,500 fans showed up outside of Sabener Strasse to witness Coutinho’s first training session with the rest of the squad. There will also be a feature on him in Bayern’s latest issue of its member magazine, 51.

While the social media numbers do not necessarily translate to success on the pitch, it is refreshing to see how much excitement surrounds Bayern’s new playmaker, especially considering the difficult circumstances Bayern has faced during the summer transfer window; namely, the ACL injury of Manchester City’s Leroy Sane. Coutinho may not have been on Bayern’s radar heading into the summer transfer window, but he could prove to be a fantastic circumstantial signing and joins Lucas Hernandez, Benjamin Pavard, Fiete Arp, Ivan Perisic, and Michaël Cuisance on Bayern’s list of new signings in 2019.

This is also the perfect place and opportunity to express our appreciation for Bayern’s social media departments, who never cease to amaze and excite us. Bayern Munich’s social media platforms are some of the best in the business, let alone the Bundesliga or European Football itself.

P.S.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Twitter is up there in the ranks as well. They’re pretty awesome, too!
