Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Cuisance met with the press this morning after practice and expressed his joy at being able to suit up for the Bavarian squad as it prepares to square off with Schalke 04 this weekend (FCBayern.com):
I am very happy to be at Bayern Munich. I’m very happy that I can train here with such mangificent players and can continue my development here.
Despite reports that he had a poor attitude with Borussia Mönchengladbach, Cuisance gave a very team-oriented response when asked about his goals for the season:
Work hard, adapt, and give my all to help the team achieve its goals!
Still, Cuisance acknowledged that not everything was exactly smooth during his time with Die Fohlen:
The first season in Gladbach was very good, the second was somewhat more difficult. I have drawn a lot of self-confidence from my playing for the national team.
Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic was ecstatic to welcome Cuisance from Borussia Mönchengladbach and thinks the 20-year-old’s skill-set and versatility will be valuable assets to the squad:
I’m very happy that we could bring Michaël Cuisance to Munich, he’s a player we’ve been watching for a long time. He has great potential, great talent. He’s a player who can play every position in the midfield, a creative player with a really good left foot — it’s really quite special. I am sure we will be delighted watching him.
The interesting part of that quote is that Salihamidzic can envision Cuisance playing “every position in the midfield.” While most have slotted Cuisance to compete for time at the “8,” it sounds as if Bayern Munich could have plans to try Cuisance at multiple positions in the central midfield.
Cuisance, however, might have given an indication on where he sees himself by who he idolized growing up:
Of course there are many great midfielders in France, but Zinedine Zidane impressed me the most.
Cuisance will wear number 11, last worn by James Rodriguez, and should be available this weekend if needed against Schalke 04.
