Bayern Munich II picked up a big victory in the 3.Liga on the road against Hallescher FC on Monday. Otschi Wriedt and Lukas Mai netted the goals for the Bavarians as they picked up their second win out of the first five matches in their return to the third division.
Alphonso Davies, Fiete Arp, and Sarpreet Singh joined FCB II for the match, and the team saw the return of captain Nicolas Feldhahn. Coach Sebastian Hoeness stuck with his 4-2-3-1 in this one. Davies slotted in at left back, while American Chris Richards entered the starting lineup for the first time this year at right back. Arp and Singh joined Joshua Zirkzee behind Wriedt in the attacking front.
Bayern struck early through Wriedt. Just five minutes into the match, Wriedt knocked a rebound from a corner into the back of the net to put the Bavarians up on the road. However, Terrence Boyd equalized in the 23rd minute after getting behind Mai and Feldhahn who fell asleep on a deep cross.
The winner came in the 66th minute on the boot of Mai. It was his older brother, Sebastian Mai, that fouled Wriedt just outside the penalty area. On the ensuing free kick, Bayern’s Mai hopped on a loose ball and shot it into the back of the net for the lead and eventually victory.
With two more matches before the international break, FCB II have an opportunity to pick up some more points before the two weeks off. Both matches, at home, will see Bayern host both Chemnitzer and Unterhaching.
Bayern XI: Früchtl - Richards, Feldhahn, L. Mai, Davies - Welzmüller, Will (86. Stanisic) - Arp (69. Dajaku), Zirkzee (56. Rochelt), Singh - Wriedt
