Franck Evina and Adrian Fein suffered different fates in the First Round of the 2019-20 DFB Pokal. While it was the expected result for both teams, you can never be too sure whenever Hamburg are involved. Evina and KFC Uerdingen played Borussia Dortmund while Fein and Hamburg played Chmnitzer.
Evina and Uerdingen hosted Dortmund at Fortuna Dusseldorf’s Merkur Spiel-Arena. Their normal stadium, Grotenburg-Stadion, is undergoing renovations as a 90+ year old stadium does. Uerdingen withstood a Dortmund barrage in the first half and, somehow, even nabbed the best chance of the first half after a near-calamitous mistake from Mats Hummels. However, second half goals from Marco Reus and Paco Alcacer saw Dortmund through with a 2-0 victory. Evina started and went 63 minutes.
Hamburg had to come from behind twice against 3.Liga side Chemnitzer. Dejan Bozic put the hosts up 1-0 in the 56th minute, but Lukas Hinterseer equalized six minutes for HSV. Then, Matti Langer put Chemnitzer up 2-1 in the 68th minute, but HSV responded just seven minutes later through Sonny Kittel. In the penalty shootout, Fein took the final and winning penalty for HSV. His shot sent Chemnitzer goalkeeper Jakub Jakubov the wrong direction. That was a big spot for Fein, and he came through big for Hamburg.
