Schalke may be tipping their cards here.

Schalke 04 have apparently just signed a brand new keeper for the upcoming season. Markus Schubert the first choice goalie for Dynamo Dresden made a name for himself in the 2.Bundesliga; so much so that Arsenal were presumably hot on his trail.

So what could make the 21-year-old go to a club where his path is seemingly blocked by a 22-year-old wünderkeeper like Alexander Nübel? The simple answer is his path may not be blocked for long.

Fix: According to @SPORT1-Info Markus Schubert has signed @s04 with the presentation occurring tomorrow. BILD colleagues have also reported this. 4 years incl. exit clause. Salary well over 1 million. Explosive: (Schubert) to become number 1. Reason: Nübel exit more and more likely.

There is nothing to suggest an impending announcement of a Nubel-to-Bayern Munich transfer, but the writing is on the wall with this recent announcement. Schubert had 31 starts last season as a 20-year-old in the second highest league in the land. It’s hard to fathom that he would leave that to be a backup at Schalke.

Schubert reportedly had a deal in place to join Arsenal, but wasn’t fond of the idea of competing with Bernd Leno for first-team minutes. You can see where this is going. Once again, it’s no sure thing that Nubel is coming to Bayern, but keep your news alerts on.
