Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich on Leroy Sane: ‘’If Leroy wanted to, he probably would already be here’’

The Bayern right-back, just like the fans, seems to not know what is going on in the Sane transfer circus.

The never-ending saga whether Manchester City’s Leroy Sane will join Bayern Munich took an interesting turn when Niko Kovac said he was confident that his team would sign the German international. Naturally, Bayern supporters saw this as a sign that Sane was close to signing for the Bavarian giant.

Both Bayern and coach Niko Kovac may have let their excitement over the possibility get the better of them. Kovac, who seems to head for an almighty bust-up, told ZDF that he apologized for his comments. He had called Pep Guardiola personally and apologized. Although Kovac later said that he always tries and speak the truth, it is fair to say that this was far from a smart move from the Berlin-native.

Close, but not close enough, seems to be the motto of Bayern’s 2019 Silly Season campaign.

Joshua Kimmich elaborated his knowledge when asked by Sky Sports whether Leroy Sane will come to Bayern or not after the 6-1 win against Fenerbahce yesterday:

I don’t know where we stand right now, I think that the club (Bayern) wants him. If Leroy wanted to [come], he would probably already be here, so I do not know how the state of affairs is.

Joshua Kimmich almost epitomized what the fans felt about the transfer period. The Silly Season brings uncertainty for supporters and players. Kimmich ended his comments by stating:

No idea, I’ll only hear it from you, what you will write. The president doesn’t come into the dressing room saying: “Hey, listen to me, we want Sane.”
