Niko Kovac “confident” that Bayern Munich will land Leroy Sane, Manchester City looking for replacements (UPDATE!)

New, comments

Is it happening? Maybe. A report out of Spain seems to back up the Croatian manager’s confidence.

Two big pieces of news on the Leroy Sane transfer front. First, the main one: Bayern Munich coach Niko Kovac is confident that Sane will sign for the club. The Germans have been pursuing the Manchester City winger all summer, reportedly conducting negotiations with the player’s entourage for several weeks now.

Speaking to ZDF Sport, Kovac had this to say about the transfer:

It gets better. According to Diario AS, Manchester City are already preparing for a post-Sane future by acquiring Real Sociedad winger Mikel Oyarzabal. The club have already made an offer, and if the player accepts it the Citizens will pay his €75m release clause.

If this is true, then Kovac’s confidence may not be unfounded. While Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has refused to comment on the Sane rumors as of late, he did confirm that Bayern Munich would certainly make more signings this summer. Leroy Sane and Marc Roca are the only players reported to be on the Bavarians’ wish-list at the moment, and Roca’s transfer is simply a matter of paying the €40m release clause.

However, this does not mean that a deal is close. Man City may drag negotiations out in a bid to squeeze more out of Bayern, or the club may face more roadblocks from Sane’s entourage itself. That being said, this is the most positive anyone has been about the transfer in months, a far cry from Uli Hoeness’ defeatist comments from a while back.

Hopefully, we get a quick resolution one way or another. The EPL transfer window closes soon, so that should put a deadline on proceedings. While Bayern can still buy Sane after that date, it’s unlikely that Man City will sell. So, one more week of this uncertainly.

Hopefully.

Update

Oh great, here’s Fabrizio Romano with bad news.

How indecisive is this guy? It never ends.
